January 2001 - Although the investment projects in the German Dairy Industry have become noticeably less, existing plants are continually being extended and modernized. And when it comes to modern technology, GEA Wiegand is involved. The proof is the delivery of one of the largest evaporators to a company of the German Dairy Industry.

For an evaporation rate of approx. 40 tons/hr, a single-effect plant heated by mechanical vapour recompressor has been designed. This system is unparalleled. The calandria of a nominal diameter of 2,900 mm weighs 70 tons and is equipped with 1700 heat transfer tubes. The total length of the tubes strung together would result in a line of more than 26 kilometres.

The power of the ventilator is 630 kW. With a speed of 950 km/hr and an impeller diameter of 2.5 m it ranks among the largest mechanical vapour recompressors that are being built right now.

All in all , the GEA Wiegand engineers have put up a top-class performance
