August 2002 - One of the largest biodiesel plants in Germany with a capacity
of 100,000 tons biodiesel and 12,000 tons glycerine was recently commissioned
in Marl in North Rhine-Westphalia.
One of the core components of this
plant is the GEA Wiegand 3-effect falling film forced circulation evaporation
plant, in which glycerine water containing salt, which is produced as
high-quality by-product during the production of biodiesel, is concentrated
from 32 % to 85 % TS. The particular feature of this plant is the new
technological concept which makes it possible to reach an exceptionally high
operating period for this product.
This results in a high plant
availability, minimization of cleaning requirements and high environmental
compatibility. This is, all in all, another example of the competence of GEA
Wiegand engineers, which is documented by the plant manager's statement: "We
are very much satisfied with the quality of our product".
