August 2000: The list of reference plants now boasts the largest plant for the
production of 120,000 l/hr pure alcohol ever built by GEA Wiegand.
The
plant purifies raw alcohol of different origin and quality into neutral or fine
alcohol which considerably surpasses the usual sensory and analytic
specifications. At the same time, rectified alcohol is dehydrated in an
energetically connected system, which means that no additional steam is
required for this process. In total, the plant has a consumption of less than
1.5 kg steam per litre of pure alcohol.
Depending on the quality of the
raw alcohol, the losses of alcohol yield amount to a few percent. The cooling
water consumption is reduced to a minimum thanks to the use of air coolers.
