February 2007 - Once again, the research and development center of GEA Wiegand made significant contributions to an interesting large-scale order. The performance requirement was the recovery of the N-methyl pyrrolidon solvent. The high-value and expensive solvent is contained in a process water which is produced in the production process of dialysis membranes. The tests for the process optimization took two years. The results achieved were impressive and could be used as the basis for the design of the operating plant. More than 90 % of the solvent can be recovered. In this way, the multi-million investment costs can be compensated within less than one year.

The world's largest producer of hemodialysis membranes is the customer.

GEA Wiegand were awarded the entire order, consisting of a falling-film evaporator with mechanical vapor recompression and a special high-concentrator incl. building services.
