November 2006 – This year again, more than 40 participants used the opportunity to inform themselves about current GEA Wiegand developments in a seminar. In addition, a guest speaker of the Fraunhofer Institute Umsicht was invited to give a speech.

The seminar focussed on the application of the latest recompressor technology in evaporation and distillation plants and the presentation of new concepts for the efficient production of bioethanol. In this context, special emphasis was placed on saving energy by multiple-effect arrangements and heating plants by means of thermal and mechanical vapour recompression. Moreover, control and safety monitoring of recompressors were explained in a presentation. In the field of distillation, the same topic was analyzed on the basis of already built plants. The guest speaker reported about efficient energy supply with a focus on exhaust heat utilization.

Possibilities of integrating membrane technology to increase the capacity of evaporation plants and saving energy in existing plants for waste water treatment and condensate polishing rounded off the program. The last point on the agenda was a visit to the Research and Development Center, where the plants presented in the seminar were studied during their operation.
